New Jersey passed legislation allowing gambling on February 26, 2013 and now gearing up for online gambling starting this fall on statutory deadline date of November 26, 2013. Twelve casinos in the Atlantic City will offer legal online table games as well as slots. Other stats that are vying to get a bigger stake in online gambling include the only other legal gambling States of Nevada and Delaware. All States allow online gambling within the boundaries of the State and Nevada already allows smartphone users to bet on poker and New Jersey will allow bets from smartphones when they go online in the fall.
New Jersey regulators say that they have reviewed 37 applications it received for online gambling. The existing 12 casinos will also partner with an online services including Gamesys (Tropicana Atlantic City), PokerStars (Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City), 888 Holdings Plc. and Bwin Party Digital Entertainment Plc. Some estimate New Jersey online gambling market at $275 million a year. The State anticipated only about $180 million tax revenue from online gambling. The Internet gambling will produce higher tax revenue at 15 percent compared to eight percent gross gambling revenue tax at the casinos.
