Ladbrokes Enters Mexican Market Through Sportium

Ladbrokes is set to make a comeback to the Mexican market through the collaboration with Sportium, which is a JV with CIRSA, a Spanish operator.

During the course of the past week, Sportium, a Spanish betting operator that functions on various channels and which is also the official La Liga partner, has launched a site in Mexico. This website is regulated and will leverage the offline business of Casino Life, CIRSA’s casinos in Mexico.

The new regulated website consists of various sports betting and casino services. It also comprises of bingo games and more than 200 slot machine games. Their product SportiumBet comprises of the sports betting segment of site and covers a wide range of popular sports activities such as basketball, football, baseball and soccer.

In August 2013 Ladbrokes had expressed plans to tap into the Mexican online gaming scene. However, the plans were delayed due to regulatory issues in the country. The company has released a statement after the successful regulation of their site by the Mexican Ministry of the Interior. They affirmed that their site met all necessary legal requirements and that they have taken all measures to ensure a safe and fair gaming.

Ladbrokes International’s managing director recently stated that the company’s entry into the Mexican market is the initial steps in their plans and not necessarily a culmination. Sportium has sustained growth through retail and digital products in Spain. With CIRSA’s extensive presence across Latin America, the JV will now expand further in that region.
