Playing poker requires one to understand the basics but it must be said that there are different levels of skill and ability.

Most poker games are played with a standard English deck of 52 cards. None of the suits, made up of spades, clubs, hearts and diamonds, are more valued than the other. However, the ace in each suit will be used as the highest or lowest card. The others increase in value  from 2 to the king.

Along with this, players are issues chips that represent money (whether they are actually playing for money or not). Apart from this, a betting limits as well as the number of raises is agreed upon, where the latter is usually three in number. Some games have a pot-size or no limit too.

One of the players acts as a dealer and shuffles the cards face-down so as to prevent players from seeing the order of cards. Next, a portion of the cards are kept away by another player while the lower portion is moved to the top of the deck. The dealer will then ask the player to place their chips in the pot.

With the turn of play starting with the player left of the dealer, they can call check and bet nothing or place a bet. In response to this, the other players must either fold, call the wager or call the wager and raise. Bettings end for this particular round when the last player has acted.

After this, the dealer can ask players if they want new cards and then the next round begins with the first player taking action in either betting or opting for a check.

Finally, once all the players either have all chips of theirs in the pot or have folded, tha player with the highest hand wins.
